Are you Visible?

Competition in today’s market can be fierce. Visibility is a big deal these days, whether it is visibility of your sign to customers to inform them about your business or the availability of other marketing tactics such as a Facebook page or corporate Twitter account to those trying to find you online.

Having a sign that stands out to your potential customers is necessary. If your customers don’t know where to find you, then you can’t expect them to come in and shop when they need something. You sign doesn’t have to be big or flashy to draw attention, but it does have to meet a few simple criteria to be effective.

First, your sign must be the embodiment of your brand. What is the first restaurant that comes to mind when you think of fast food? I would wager it is the golden arches of McDonalds, or one of a similar fast food chain. When people see that sign there is no question as to what business they are looking at. Think of strong color combinations as well that may be incorporated from your logo or other branding materials.

You sign must also be in a good location that will attract the most attention from the largest number of people possible. This may be on the street in front of your business, above your entrance, or mounted somewhere else on your property.

Most importantly however, your sign must be readable. Usually the key to this is simplicity when designing your sign. Trying to do too much with a sign will only deter potential customers from trying to find out more information about your business or even worse; from actually coming into your store because they were confused as to what service your business provides.

By following these rules you are on your way to creating an effective sign that not only embodies your business, but also informs your future customers about you.
